Rider Levels vs. Rider Achievements

At Swan River, every rider follows our Rider Progression Program. Rider Levels help instructors and parents track a rider's current skills, identify areas for growth, and ensure riders are learning in a safe and structured way.

While Rider Levels serve as a guide for progression, riders also have opportunities to earn special achievements throughout the year as they master new skills and reach important milestones.

Achievements may recognize accomplishments such as:

  • Horse Care & Horsemanship

  • Grooming & Tacking

  • Riding Skills

  • Safety Knowledge

  • Show Participation

  • Leadership & Volunteer Service

Achievements are celebrated through certificates, recognition on our Rider Achievement Board, and session progress reports.

Session Progress Reports

At the end of each session, riders receive a progress report outlining:

• Current Rider Level

• Skills Mastered

• Skills In Progress

• Goals for Continued Growth

• Instructor Feedback

Consistent Lessons. Consistent Progress.

Rather than booking lessons week-to-week, riders enroll in a lesson program that reserves their place in the schedule and provides ongoing instruction throughout the session.

Weekly Lesson Program

$295/month

Our most popular option. Riders are placed into the lesson format that best supports their goals, schedule, and current rider level. Depending on enrollment and scheduling needs, lessons may be conducted as private, semi-private, or small group lessons. Lesson length adjusts based on the number of riders in the lesson: Private Lesson: 30 Minutes Semi-Private Lesson: 45 Minutes Group Lesson (3-4 riders): 60 Minutes This option provides the greatest scheduling flexibility while allowing riders to benefit from both individualized instruction and learning alongside other riders.

Requested Private Instruction

$345/month

For riders who prefer exclusively one-on-one instruction. Riders enrolled in this option receive: ✓ A guaranteed private lesson each week ✓ Individualized lesson planning ✓ Personalized goal setting ✓ Dedicated one-on-one instruction Private lessons are 30 minutes in length.

How Scheduling Works

Prior to each session, families submit their availability and lesson preferences.

Our team carefully builds the lesson schedule based on:

• Rider level and experience

• Horse suitability

• Instructor availability

• Family scheduling requests

• Lesson compatibility with other riders

Once assigned, riders attend the same lesson day and time each week throughout the session.

Why This Structure?

Our flexible placement model allows us to create the best learning environment for each rider while making the most effective use of our instructors, lesson horses, and available lesson times.

Some riders thrive in a private setting, while others benefit from riding alongside peers. By maintaining flexibility within the program, we can provide more opportunities for growth while keeping scheduling consistent for families.
